Foods 1 is .50 elective course recommended for students who have successfully completed Intro to FCS. 

 

The goal of Foods I is to prepare students with the skills to be sufficient in home-made food preparation for their life after high school.  Foods I is a course designed to help a student know the nutritional needs of teenagers. Students will learn about eating disorders, how to be a smart consumer, and safety in the kitchen. Aside from safety and consumer measures, students learn to follow a recipe, employ basic skills in food preparation, and identify equipment used in food preparation from all food groups.

 

Foods I class will include the basics of kitchen procedures. Evaluation and grading in this class are based on several factors. Students are graded on class participation and daily work, lab experiences, and test & quizzes. Both the student and teacher will evaluate the performance. Units include: 1) Smart Consumer, 2) Safeguarding the Family, 3) Smart Eating, 4) Fruits & Vegetables, 5) Bread, 6) Soups, Salads, & Casseroles, and 7) Eggs.
